Store It Safe
Store it Safe (SIS) provides education to youth serving professionals seeking to help Ohio families with improving in-home safe storage of lethal means and other suicide prevention strategies.

In partnership with CareSource, The Ohio AAP SIS program is implementing an Impact Education program to assess the likelihood of behavior change for patients and families after receiving SIS messaging and resources. Data will be gathered using iPad and no data entry is required from providers. Data will be used to improve SIS messaging and resources.
Program Objectives
- Educate pediatric providers on the importance of lethal means restriction counseling.
- Educate pediatric providers on how to do lethal means restricition counseling.
- Support pediatric providers in implementing practice change to incoporate lethal means restriction counseling in their practice.
- Collect data from caregivers and patients on their response and reactions to receiving lethal means restriction counseling.
Participant Benefits
The Ohio AAP team will provide participating practices with:
- Printed and/or electronic access to SIS materials for families
- Education, training, coaching and talking points
- Safe storage options (safety lock boxes) to be offered at all preventative visits for adolescents
- $500 stipend
- CME credit (2 hours)
- MOC II (2 hours)
- Review of caregiver/youth response data
Participant Responsibilities:
Participants will complete the following:
- 1 one hour virtual learning session
- 1 virtual practice coaching call 1-2 weeks after virtual learning session
- 2 virtual action period calls
- 1 virtual exit interview
- Pre and post-program brief provider survey
Data Information:
Participating providers will be provided with ipads to collect caregiver/patient response data. At the end of each adolescent well visit appointment the provider will give the caregiver/youth the ipad to complete a brief deidentified survey. Aggregate caregiver/youth response data will be shared with participants.
