Safer Cycling Ahead: Ohio AAP Distributed 10,000 Bike Helmets through Put A Lid on It Program

On Thursday, May 4^th, 10,000 bike helmets were distributed for the 13^th year of the Ohio AAP’s Put a Lid on It Bike Helmet Safety program, thanks to a continued partnership between the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio AAP.

Summer is right around the corner, which means more time spent outside and on bicycles. Children should be wearing a helmet every time they ride their bike this summer because they help prevent injuries and save lives! Up to 75% of bike-related fatalities would be prevented with a helmet and wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85%.

“Wearing a helmet not only reduces the risk of injury but prevents unnecessary trips to hospitals, keeping Ohio’s children safe and healthy to enjoy their summer.” said Melissa Wervey Arnold, Chief Executive Officer of the Ohio AAP. “We are incredibly grateful for ODOT’s support of our Put a Lid on It campaign this year. With their continued support, we will be able to supply bike helmets to thousands and continue protecting Ohio’s children.”

Ohio AAP and ODOT were able to distribute bike helmets, training materials for biking education, including how to properly fit children with bike helmets, to over 158 local partners across the state. The Put a Lid on It Bike Helmet program has now donated nearly 100,000 free helmets to Ohio’s children and communities since the program’s launch

Registration for this year’s Goofy Golf event has officially opened! Goofy Golf 2023 is scheduled for Friday, July 28th at Royal American Links, and is set to be another amazing golf outing filled with networking, golf, and games.
