Adolescent Preventive Health

General Information

Only 43.85% of Ohio adolescents with Medicaid received a comprehensive annual well visit, leaving more than 400,000 visits missed.

Adolescent well visits are essential for supporting teen physical and behavioral health. These visits provide an important opportunity to address preventive care, behavioral health needs, risk behaviors and immunizations, while also helping build trust during a critical stage of development.

The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) is excited to partner with the Ohio Department of Medicaid’s Outcomes Acceleration for Kids (OAK) initiative on a new adolescent health project.

The goal of the project is to improve access to adolescent well care, with a focus on practices caring for adolescents that are not hospital-owned or part of an accountable care organization.
