New Season, New Injury Risks:
Learn to Prevent Home Injuries All Year

With the holiday celebrations and decorations right around the corner, it is important to continue sharing guidance on safety and injury prevention with your patients & caregivers. Unfortunately, intentional injuries can happen to anyone at any age, but the younger children are at high risk for injury from new items in the home over the holidays. According to Safe Kids Worldwide:

  • In 2012, 3,270 children 19 and under were seen in emergency rooms for injuries caused by nonelectric holiday decorations, like broken ornaments.
  • In 2012, an estimated 192,000 children were treated in an emergency room for a toy-related injury.

You can make a positive impact all year by sharing important resources about preventing injuries with your patients and families. The Ohio AAP’s Injury Prevention + Save Environment for Every Kid (SEEK) QI Program is enrolling now, and provides resources you can provide to help keep your patients safe at home. Participants will be able to choose from items like sleep sacks, cabinet locks and more!
