The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics worked with lawmakers to introduce SB #, that would require Ohio children to be vaccinated against meningitis during their 11-12 well-child visit. Currently the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the meningococcal vaccine for everyone aged 11-18 years-old.
Ohio Senator Cliff Hite (R) is the main sponsor of the legislation. His five year-old niece died of bacterial meningitis. Hite also sponsored a bill that passed in 2014 that designated March 9 as Meningitis Awareness Day. Watch the video below to learn more about Sen. Hite’s passion to get this law passed.
