The following information is provided by the Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) to assist our partners in advocating for Senate Bill 379, which would require liquid nicotine to be sold in child-proof packaging. Violators could be fined up to $1,000 per offense. SB 379 was introduced by Sen. Shannon Jones, a Springboro Republican, on October 28, 2014.
In 2013, 257 children nationwide were seen at a hospital after being poisoned with liquid nicotine. That number has risen to 481 as of mid-August, 2014 — including 15 visits to Ohio hospitals.
