Do You Know Your Practices HPV Rates? Increase Immunizations and Vaccine Confidence in Upcoming Project!
The Ohio AAP is currently seeking practices to become HPV immunization champions as part of an upcoming quality improvement (QI) project!
Although national HPV immunization rates continue to be on the rise, only 61.7% of adolescents were up to date in 2021. As a way to provide resources to assist in improving HPV immunization rates and how to better communicate with parents who are hesitant, the Ohio AAP is launching an upcoming QI project.
Ohio AAP has conducted research into the best ways to approach conversations and develop an overall vaccine strategy that can improve rates for practices. Many of the same concepts for addressing reluctancy to the HPV vaccine can also be applied to the COVID-19 vaccine or other required childhood immunizations.
What can you do now to improve immunizations in your practice?
The Ohio AAP is enrolling practices now for wave 2 of the HPV Immunization QI Project. Launching in October, participating practices will receive:
- $1,000 to support office staff time
- 25 points of MOC Part IV credits
- Education sessions and materials to combat vaccine hesitancy
- QI coaching and team support
- Data collection and analysis to measure your changes
Wave 1 of the project was a huge success with 100% of the 19 practices participating saying they met or exceeded their individual project goals. One pediatrician said “The support of Ohio AAP and collaboration among the participating groups helped me jump start making sustainable improvements to my HPV practices through small, workable cycles of change. Five stars!”
The HPV Immunization QI project will engage a limited number of practices from October 2023 to November 2024. To learn more, please contact Lory Sheeran Winland at lwinland@ohioaap.org or visit https://ohioaap.org/qi-programs-moc-iv/hpv-qi-project/.
