COVID-19 Vaccine Updates from the Ohio Department of Health

To All Enrolled COVID-19 Vaccine Providers,

Please read these important COVID-19 vaccines updates.

Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine Availability
Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine (NDC# 59676-0580-15) is no longer available for ordering. Please ensure that only viable J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine is in your inventory. As a matter of best practice, providers should use the manufacturer’s online tool at https://vaxcheck.jnj/ to check expiry dates.

Novavax Availability
Novavax has a Sunday, April 30, 2023, expiry.  Additional Novavax is anticipated in May. Providers are asked to:

• Order only what you can administer.
• Order lean, order often, and please do not stockpile.

Tentative Monovalent Expiration Dates
Monovalent COVID-19 vaccine supply is limited, and expiration dates are approaching. Please use the table below for planning.

*Final ship date will be communicated as soon as possible.

• Pfizerhas already received shelf-life extensions of all monovalent products.​
• Modernais not pursuing additional shelf-life extensions of their monovalent products.
• Novavaxdoses expiring on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, will not receive shelf-life extensions.
• J&J/Janssendoses will not be receiving any additional shelf-life extensions.

Remember to check COVID-19 vaccine expiration dates. The best practice is to use the manufacturer’s online expiry checking tools:

Moderna Monovalent Pediatric Vaccine Shelf-Life Extensions
Several lots of monovalent Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 6 months – 5 years (magenta age band on label) have received shelf-life extensions. Moderna has updated their Moderna Vial Expiration Checker website at https://modernacovid19global.com/vial-lookup?#vialLookUpTool.

Moderna Shippers
COVID-19 vaccine providers will no longer receive UPS return labels for any size of frozen shipping containers containing Moderna vaccine from McKesson. Please dispose of frozen shipping containers and packing materials as you would any other waste. Please attempt to recycle the cardboard components of their frozen shipping containers through your local recycling program.
