Ohio AAP has Valuable Resources and Innovative Solutions for Your Practice Issues

Patients who have Medicaid as their primary or secondary insurance are on the rise. We heard your concerns on issues including Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) denying claims when patients have Medicaid MCO as secondary insurance. It is especially complicated when your record of a patient’s identifying information is not an exact match with how they are listed with Medicaid. We also hear that because of administrative burdens, some providers accept only one Medicaid MCO in order to deal with only one Medicaid MCO formulary and one set of billing procedures.

The Ohio AAP would love feedback on your experiences when commercial insurance is primary and Medicaid MCO is secondary; please take a moment to complete the short survey at this link: MCO Survey.

There are two valuable resources available to practices to seek advice on their operational issues. The Ohio AAP Practice Management Listservlinks pediatric practices with each other to share existing solutions for common problems; this saves practices time and resources. Discussions include:

  • Billing & coding
  • Staffing policies
  • Patient policies
  • Equipment
  • Day-to-day issues

The Chapter has found that many of the problems encountered by pediatric practices have already been encountered and mitigated by other practices. We aim to connect practices with each other to take advantage of that shared experience. To sign up for the listserv, click here.

The national AAP Section on Administration and Practice Management (SOAPM) has a  very active listserv as well.

Posting your questions and challenges to both the Ohio national listserv is a great way to improve the practice of pediatrics across the country.

Ohio AAP Pediatric Care Council Leaders Jon Price, MD, FAAP and Frank Combs, MBA are working hard to innovate solutions and increase networking opportunities for practicing pediatricians. Please contact Kristen Fluitt via or phone 614-846-6258 with any questions you have regarding the Pediatric Care Council.
