House Bill 216 would permit Advanced Practice Registered Nurses in Ohio (certified registered nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and nurse midwives) to practice independently with no requirement for physician collaboration. This over-reaching and unnecessary plan would essentially break from the team-based model of health care that exists today jeopardizing the safety of the patient.
Ohio’s physicians value the abilities and contributions of APRNs and all nurses. However, House Bill 216 goes too far to upset the collaborative effort already underway among all health care professionals.
