Summary: The 21st Century Cures Act was signed in December 2016, and on May 1, 2020, The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) published final rules on the Federal Register addressing multiple provisions, including two that likely require action on the part of healthcare organizations: information blocking and interoperability. These rules are part of the 21st Century Cures Act implementation and focus on advancing interoperability and expanding the access, exchange, and use of electronic health information. With these rules come new terms, new potential changes for your organization, and a timeline that includes a milestone in Q4 of 2020.
